J. Risner: New neighbor, aka basement thief
I first noticed just some little things that were missing from my basement in my condo. A new neighbor moved in around the same time and I had a suspision that it might be him so I decided to purchase a camera and see who it actually was, sure enough it wasnt 2 days later that I checked my camera and there he was caught red handed. He didnt actually steal anything at the time I caught him but he did break in so at that point I gave the cops a list of items that he had stolen and burnt them a cd of the theif in action and he was linked to the break in and the other items that were missing as well!
V. Pickett: Break-in # 9 caught on video
People have tried or have broken into my house eight times since I bought it in 2003. I came across your video system on Amazan.com and read the reviews and bought and installed the cameras in my side kitchen window and back window. The person in the yellow shirt is viewed from my kitchen window. They kicked in my back door even though they saw the camera and tried to destroy it and my computer but didn’t. All three were arrested and given probation.
R. M.: Car burglary in Texas suburb
Early Tuesday morning, Jan. 19, at around 3:30 a.m. a car burglary was reported in Bantam Woods in the Village of Sterling Ridge. The burglary occurred while the car was parked in the driveway of the residence. According to the victim, it was the second time in 3 months that his vehicle had been broken into while parked in the driveway. Following the first car Burglary, the homeowner installed a WiLife exterior camera and captured the following footage on the morning of January 19th.
The cases is under investigation, but the images of the suspect provides strong evidence for a conviction when captured.
S. Strain: The yearly car thief
On Feb 7th 2009 I captured footage on my Wilife Video System of a theif sneaking around, trying to break into or steal my son's car. He was frightened away when my motion lights turn on. A year later and he is back!!! On January 9th 2010, once again I capture footage of this same person, dressed in the same navy blue jacket with a reflector stripe across the back, checking the passenger door of our vehicle.
Yes, I agree and noticed as well that this guy avoided my sensor lights. Funny thing is, I get alot of night time footage because my street runs parallel to a busy road and Tim Hortons is at the end of my road as well, this causes me alot of night time footage. This is why I can't set my cameras to call my phone at night or I would not get any sleep. I never go through all the footage because it would be to much, I am surprised I found the footage that I did of this guy, I can imagine he has been around on a regular basis or must live in one the building close by. We are watching for him to return.
I decided to install the system when someone tried to steal my snowblower, they were riding a bike in the winter time and left the bike in my snow bank to exchange for my snowblower. He didn't get it very far when he was chased off. I also have footage of a little dog that comes nightly to do his business in my carport. I couldn't figure out why every night I had poop and it was to small for my dogs. Soon after I found the footage of the little dog from down the road returning nightly and then afterward, he started to bring his new little brother. If you would like that footage I can send it in as well or I can send it in next month. Thanks so much.
W. Hiraoka: Hawaiian Monster Truck Smoke Cloud
On New Year's Eve 12/31/09, a driver attempted to topple the power pole in front of my house with his monster truck. The attempt failed, even though the truck gave it all it had. Had the pole toppled, we fear, it would have cut the power lines of the intersecting street, and possibly have crushed part of my house and hurt or electrocuted the people inside it, not to mention electrocuting the spectators with flailing live wires. The police were able to positively identify the truck, especially using video by a second camera three days later of the truck driving by. The police wanted to classify this as a harassment case; I filed it as attempted murder. Videos were provided to the police and power company, after which on-site inspections were conducted by both.
E. Feldmanis, "Stake Out"
This submission deals with a criminal investigation in which the local police were trying to apprehend a man who was posing as a Police Officer while he approached young school-aged girls. Several sightings of the man and his car had been reported to the police. But, he could not be positively identified: no one had a good enough identity nor the exact vehicle to prove he was in the area at the time these reports were called in.
They also needed to establish the timeline at which he was prowling the neighborhood. The Police knew that we had a surveillance camera and asked us to review our video clips in hopes of catching the suspect on tape. This would provide the Police with the evidence that would place the suspect in the area at the time he was reportedly there.
The following video shows the suspect’s vehicle passing by our home - which gave the Police what they needed to prove his route. We gave them the video and they were able to enhance it to clearly identify the suspect and his vehicle. The second half of the clip shows the Police departing the area when an undercover Officer located the suspect a few blocks away. Although the suspect first denied his involvement, we were told that when he was shown the video clips, he admitted that it was in fact him. Cameras don't usually lie. There have been a few situations since this that we have been asked to review our video clips.
M. Kenney, "Partiers Littering On My Lawn"
I was having some problems with my neighbors, who like to throw parties. One morning after a party, I found beer bottles on my front lawn. I remembered that my office camera, which focuses on the front yard, was running that night. When I viewed the video in Playback, I saw a vehicle pull up around 12:45 am. They not only left beer bottles when they got out of the car to go into the party, but they also left their "calling card" with more bottles when they got into the car to leave.
When I went to the neighbor the next morning, I told them what I had found (as they had asked me to do after a previous incident). They asked me if I saw the vehicle. I told them I had it on video. When I described the vehicle, they knew instantly who it was.
Needless to say, I have not had another incident of this kind. And I have a newfound respect for my neighbor's sensitivity toward the people living around them. Great system!
D. Siebenkittel, "The Taking of a Christmas Tree"
D. Siebenkittel, "Breaking into a Pepsi Machine"
S. Romano, "Kid Tags Car"
Someone spray-painted bad graffiti on my trunk. The artist was apprehended a few days later. However, the one who lost his pants is still at large.
S. Strain, "Night Thief in Winter"
This video is footage of a thief walking the neighborhood looking into vehicles. He seems to be searching for a car to break into or steal. When he entered my driveway, and the motion lights turned on, it scared him away. I got footage from three different angles with my WiLife cameras. I love my cameras!!! The cameras have saved my home on several occasions.
S. McGee: Pizza Delivery Thief
I was at my work place when I received a video clip about an event that set off five of my cameras. It was a pizza delivery boy supposedly delivering a pizza during a hurricane. I knew no one had ordered a pizza because I live alone and I was at work. The boy then triggered the camera in my garage, where I have numerous mopeds stored there. At that point, I called 911. The police arrived and and contacted me. I gave them access to enter my home. They finally apprehended the robber on the side of the house. The police were thrilled that I was able to complete such home monitoring tasks at work. The robber turned out to be an 18 year-old living close to my home. I prosecuted the kid and he was charged with multiple charges and sent to jail for an undetermined amount of time.
Thanks for my Logitech camera system and the remote operation. I feel very comfortable leaving my home alone. Talking with the officer, he wanted to purchase this same system for his home. I gave him all the Logitech information.
Chris: Teen Night Thief
We have 6 outdoor cameras set up at a family business. One night, while working late, a 15-16 yr. old on a bike attempted to break into my truck. Noticing it on our live surveillance screen, I notified police, who responded and apprehended him up the street. He had succeeded breaking into someone else’s car and stealing the GPS. If it wasn't for your camera system allowing me to see what went on outside, I wouldn't have been able to notify police. This kid would have gotten away.
I would recommend this system to anyone no matter what the use is for. I have put them in my home, as well as in many of my family’s homes. It’s amazing to see what goes on when your not home or wihle you are sleeping -- i.e., wildlife, and just anything else that comes across the cameras. Thanks for the great system.
Elizabeth L.: Creepy Man Stares At House
On September 6th of this year, while I was gone, three individuals came in to my fenced yard and stole my basket planters weighing about 45 lbs that were hanging 7' off the ground from a tree. I could follow the broken plant branches up the street about 75' and that is where the trail stopped. I could not believe someone came into my fenced yard and robbed me in the daytime. I talked to the local police.
Three weeks later, it happened again. This time they came into my yard and took a potted plant I received from my Father's funeral off my front porch. They also knocked a couple of terra cotta pots over, breaking them into pieces. I couldn't believe someone was targeting me!
I started looking at security cameras. First with hunting cameras because of the night vision, a couple of cameras from Swann, and then I found your camera here at Logitech. I was thrilled!!! The setup was extremely easy and the picture quality was amazing. Your product has been a godsend to me. I just had to provide lighting in my yard and I built a birdhouse around the camera so that no one could tell what it was.
In this video, the camera shows a creepy guy come up to my yard at 3:30 am and stare.
J. Wesley: Security Camera Catches Home Intruder
On June 18, 2009, I left to go to work, leaving my fourteen year old daughter at home alone. Shortly after I arrived at work, my daughter called frantically, 'Mom, someone was just ringing the doorbell and now I hear a noise in the house.' I was less than ten minutes away so I immediately started heading back home. I also called the police on my way to alert them to what had just occurred at my residence.
I called my daughter back to ask her if someone got inside the house. She was crying and said, 'Yes, he was standing in my doorway!'
I asked her if he was still inside the house. She said that she didn't know. She was too scared to move.
When I arrived home, the burglar was gone and my daughter was physically unharmed. However, she was extremely shaken up and afraid.
While the police officers were interviewing me, I told them that the burglar was caught on my home video surveillance system. They downloaded the video and have been actively seeking this suspect since the burglary.
D. Behan, The Tree-killing Neighbor
"My wife had been telling me the past four years that our neighbor was coming onto our property and killing the shrubs and trees. I thought this was absurd. We have a nice neighborhood. Well, after four of our newly planted trees mysteriously shriveled up and died, I decided to purchase the Logitech WiLife Video Security System.
Within 24 hours of setting it up, our cameras captured our neighbor coming in to our yard. In this video, though you can't see the action, our neighbor is trying to dismantle the security lights so the cameras cannot watch her. On this particular night, she trespasses three different times. The first time to unscrew the light bulb. In the second video, she returns with red gloves on her hands so she must have gotten burned. My wife and I caught her trespassing the third time because we were watching it Live on our Command Center while it was happening. My wife and I quickly ran outside and confronted her. In the third video, you can see her run off the property and then turn and face us. In the fourth video, you can see the police car pull up in her driveway.
Six months after we took these videos, we had our court date against her. The judge issued a restraining order against her. Ever since then, she has been relatively quiet. Of course, I still have the Logitech camera in place just in case.
K. Clattenburg, Early Morning Car Thief
Last year, we had a laptop stolen out of my truck that was sitting in our driveway. The same night, others in the neighborhood were robbed as well. I decided to put in a camera system to watch the driveway. After researching different systems, I chose Logitech WiLife. My system has grown to 5 cameras.
Though I don’t always check the recorded segments every day, on June 21st of this year, I was at my computer and decided to check the video from the early hours for Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st. I was surprised to see that I had captured someone peering into my truck with a flashlight at 4:00 AM. He then walked across to my son’s truck and tried the door. Both trucks were locked and so he moved on.
I contacted Lenexa police and provided them with a copy of the video. The officer took DNA samples from my son’s truck and advised us that he would pass the information onto a detective. I also sent the video to my neighbors and asked them to forward it to others in our neighborhood.
One of my neighbors works for a local news station. She showed it to her on-camera reporter who thought it would make a good piece on safety. So I did my first ever TV interview.
G. Harris, The Bicycle Gang's Last Stand
I recently purchased the Logitech system to increase the security of my home. One camera is mounted on my rooftop and one camera is inside my home. Over the past several months, there has been a gang breaking into vehicles in my community. The law enforcement officials had no leads because the bandits would just hit and run. Recently, I was speaking with one of my neighbors and he asked me if I had been the victim of the recent break-ins. He told me that the bandits had hit our neighborhood the previous night. I checked my automatically triggered recordings. Sure enough, my Logitech Cameras had captured the bandits not only casing my house with flashlights, but also going through my vehicle with a flashlight. When the motion detector light finally came on, Logitech captured the bandits scurrying like roaches.
I called the local authorities and they downloaded my video and then had it enhanced through their photo lab. They called me 3 days later and told me that thanks to my Logitech Video, they had made an arrest. The bandits are safely locked up and facing over 100 felony charges. The gang was a group of criminals ranging from 20 to 27 years of age.
The detective told me that when they searched the suspects premises, they recovered everything from stolen CD players and radar detectors, to dirt bikes and handguns, all from our area.
V. Griffin, Neighborhood Car Thief
During the early hours of June 30th, 2009, someone smashed the rear window of my wife's car and made off with her cell phone and $50 cash. The following day, I purchased the Logitech WiLife system with one Indoor camera (watching the front entrance through a window) and an Outdoor camera (which monitors the driveway). We also installed a motion-activated security light over the driveway.
Nine days later, the camera captured video of what we believe to be a neighborhood teen attempting to enter the car. It appears that the security light spooked him. We have not identified the teen yet, but have a good idea who it may be.
R. Cochran, The Newspaper Thief
Initially, I only had a camera monitoring my garage. But when I my morning newspaper kept going missing, I decided it was time to setup a camera to view the front of the house.
Soon after I put the camera up, I caught footage of the paper thief. One morning, I waited until his usual time to pick up my paper and stepped out from the side of the house and confronted him to let him know that I recorded him on my security camera.
E. Rose, The Wallet Thief
Because I operate a retail outlet store, I thought it would be a good idea to invest in the Logitech WiLife video monitoring system. My store is in Charlotte, NC and my office is in Cincinnati, OH. I am able to monitor my store from right at my desk or even on my Verizon Smart Phone whenever I travel. The camera is mounted inside my Charlotte store providing a panoramic view of the entire store. It turns out my investment in the WiLife system was most wise.
Recently, a customer in our store had her wallet (containing a substantial sum of money) stolen from her purse. The Charlotte/Mecklenburg Police were notified and investigated. We cooperated completely with the police investigation. We were able to scan all of the video on the particular day and retrieve the video documenting the theft by another customer in the store. We provided the police with a copy of the video segment and this was most helpful evidence in identifying the thief. This event also built goodwill within our shopping center and community. I am a WiLife customer for life!
Note: Watch for guy highlighted in yellow.
J. Thomas: Video Security & 911 Call Thwart Home Burglary
The WiLife System was one the best purchases I have made. It was very easy to set up and the customer support was great.
After being robbed last October, I continued having a feeling that someone was entering the house without my knowledge. So I set up the video surveillance system to help figure out what was going on. Then on Wednesday April 8th, I had a strange feeling there was a problem at my house. I logged onto the live streaming feature and there was a man standing in my living room attempting to rob me again! I called 911 from 30 miles away and the police were at my home in literally 4 minutes. They had my whole house surrounded. The criminals did not get away with anything other than the cheese they ate from my refrigerator.
It was a very strange feeling watching my house being robbed and feeling helpless. But in the end, due to this system, they were unable to steal from me again and went straight to jail.
I would recommend this system to anyone who does not want to spend an arm and a leg trying to protect the things they have worked so hard for.
J. Bovina, Neighborhood Crime Watch
My name is J. Bivona. My neighborhood has had several car break-ins during the summer. As a concerned citizen, I wanted to do something. I was not going to sit around and be a victim. So I purchased a Logitech WiLife video security system. A few weeks after I installed my cameras, I became a victim myself. I caught someone trying to break into my car. I turned it over to the police and they loved the quality of the footage. Within a few more weeks, the same thing happened again. So I contacted the local news and they had a great story about these two events. It aired as a top story.
A month later, I caught an attempted home invasion across the street. So I contacted the news station again and they ran this story:
This story was also aired as a top news feature. After the second story aired, it seemed to stop the problems in my neighborhood. Thanks Logitech WiLife.
G. Crossley, XBOX Bandit
On the 4th of July, while we were at a neighbors house, someone entered our house through a window and took the kids XBOX and all the add-ons. When we realized that they were missing, I checked the cameras. I had a very good clip of one of the known neighborhood drug abusers approaching the front window.
We called the police and filed a report. They came out, investigated the scene, and reviewed the cameras. They took a copy of two of the video clips with them. Later, the detectives came to the house for more information. They informed us that they had an arrest warrant for the person and were going to get a subpoena for a Craigslist ad, which they believed had our stolen items up for sale.
In the first video clip, you can see the thief coming up to the front window. The second clip shows my kids coming home to change into their swim trunks while he was in the house. Luckily, they didn't go down to the basement where the missing items were. The Police were impressed with the quality of the video and they came back out to get more information on the cameras.
S. McCartney, After a Party in Canton
A party let out rather quickly one night. As to why, I dont know. These youths ran throughout the neighborhood, causing grief. (What you don't get to see on this video is the havoc they created for the neighbors down the street. Shameful.)
My video shows how these individuals tried to dash from a house party and run from the patrolling officers. I did inform the arriving officer that I had available video of the youths.
C. Piroli, The Heating & Cooling Thief
My name is C. Piroli. My family owns a Heating and Cooling Company in Connecticut. Last year, around May, we purchased a 6-camera Outdoor System from your company because we had several of our trucks broken into and copper wiring stolen from inside. We had security companies come in and give us prices to install security systems. The cost of these systems ranged anywhere from $3,000 to $12,000, which was ridiculous for what we could afford. Being good with computers, I found your system. In one day, we had the whole system up and running and ready to catch the thief.
The crime captured by the Logitech security cameras in this video occurred April 28, 2008. I had the cameras linked through the Internet right to the computer in my bedroom. At 3:48 A.M. I was awakened by the alarm that alerted motion on the cameras. I logged into my account to see what my cameras were seeing. I saw a man in a hooded sweatshirt with a bag and a bar. I phoned the local police (who we notified beforehand of these robberies). It was 3:49 A.M. At 3:51, they called me to say they had him in custody.
The cameras caught everything - from the minute he entered the warehouse property, walked over to the trucks, broke the lock, opened the door, placed the bent copper in his bag, to being tackled to the ground and carried away in handcuffs.
We can't explain how happy we are with this product. We recommend it to anyone. In fact, we have put them in both our homes.
I really want to thank your company on behalf of my self and our company. We have nothing but good experience with your system. We would love for you to share our story with everyone was an example on how great your product works.
Note: The thief has been locked up in prison since April 28, 2008. He was charged on several misdemeanors and one felony. He was sentenced on November 15, 2008 on Burglary 3rd Deg. Class D Felony and sentenced to 5 years jail, execution suspended after 18 months, and conditional discharge after 3 years.
C. Bateman: Late Night Car Break-in
What event influenced you to purchase a video security system?
I saw it in Radio Shack and decided to try it out.
Where are the Cameras installed in your home or business?
I only have one camera and it sits in the window overlooking my front driveway.
How have you benefited from having video security?
I work out of an office in my home and I can monitor visitors.
What is your video clip about?
At night while sleeping a burglar broke into our automobile, while the camera was on, I do not have infrared so I turn up brightness and lower contrast. We were alerted by my cell phone
The burglar was arrested and the video sent to the police.
D. Grant: Stealing UPS Packages
I've been using the Wilife camera system for the past four months; it has been totally effective. I knew it was time to install a security camera when thieves broke into my house one afternoon and the police had no leads on who committed the crime. Within two months of installing the Wilife Camera, it recorded a theft on my property: I had ordered some packages from an on-line retailer, to be delivered via UPS. The date of delivery came and went. I reviewed my UPS tracking number. The UPS tracking service listed the items as delivered. Well, I knew that I never received the packages so I went to my Wilife System. I went to the exact date and time that the UPS tracking service stated that they had delivered the packages. And UPS was correct. They had delivered the packages, as scheduled and noted on the tracking service. To my surprise, though, within ten minutes of the UPS delivery, a lady stole them right off of my front porch and my security camera clearly captured the whole incident.
The video clip I submitted shows the lady parking in front of my house and walking up to my front-door empty handed. When she returns to her car, you can see two boxes underneath her jacket. I emailed this video to my local police department. Within one day, they were able to identify the suspect. She was later arrested.
Without this video tape, I would have had no idea about what happened to my packages. Since this incident, I've even installed additional cameras to ensure that I have a view of everything that happens around my home.
Thanks for this easy to use camera!
D. Wilpon: Warehouse Crooks
I purchased the Logitech Digital Video Security system just this past March (2009) for my business. Just days after installation, the morning manager noticed when opening up for the day that the front door was open and the lights were on. He looked around and nothing seemed to be missing or disturbed. We noticed, however, that the alarm system had been tampered with; and had never went off. So we checked the recorded video from the Logitech WiLife security cameras, from the Playback screen on the WiLife software, and found these two men in the warehouse.
G. Sfedu: Night Attack in Rittenhouse Square
I purchased a Logitech Video Security camera system after an item was stolen from our building. Although the Philadelphia Police was willing to find the thieves, they had nothing to start their investigation. And they were surprised that I didn't have any video surveillance on the building. The attractive part of the Logitech security system was the ability to use the electrical wiring in the house, making it far more convenient to install. The software is pretty smart as well.
The attached video was taken with a Logitech WiLife Outdoor camera mounted on the front of the building. The video depicts the suspect hiding behind a tree until a woman rides by on her bicycle. He proceeds to blind her with a flashlight enough to startle her. He attacks her, wrestling away her bicycle and purse. Notice that her shoe has come off in the event and that she goes to the neighbor's door and rings for help, but nobody opens the door for her. Notice also that the delivery truck speeds directly over the path where this woman had been attacked in the street. She may have been hit if she was more injured. In the closing frames, she recovers her lost shoe and walks away. This event happened in the most exclusive neighborhood in Philadelphia: Rittenhouse Square.
I sent all of the captured video segments to the police as evidence. I was informed by the police that they apprehended the criminal shortly after the incident because he was seen riding the woman's bike and carrying a purse. The suspect proceeded to run from the police when approached by them and he ended up riding into the police station's parking lot. I also understand that the girl was pretty badly hurt.
J. Butts: The Gasoline Thief
My husband and I work out of town so we decided to buy a Logitech Video Security system and add-on camera for our front and back yard. We don't worry about home anymore because we just go online and can see what is going on from anywhere in the world. We come home about ever other weekend and we talk to our neighbor across the street in order to catch up on what is going on. After our last trip, our neighbor advised us that someone was stealing gas in the neighborhood. We thought nothing of this news. When we had to return out of town for work, we filled up both vehicles because we thought gas was going to go up again.
When we returned home 2 weeks later, both vehicles were on empty. They would not even start. We were so mad we called the police and they said this had been going on for awhile but they had no leads and could not catch this person. We told them we had security cameras and had not yet had the time to review them. We promised that we would review all of the recorded video captured by the cameras and contact them if we found anything. Sure enough, we did have recorded video. Our neighbor was stealing gasoline from both of our vehicles. We would have never known who was the thief if we did not have our Logitech WiLife cameras. Because of the security camera and recorded video, our neighbor admitted to the theft and spent time in jail.
All the people in the neighborhood now want to know were to buy the camera at and also the police said they might have to use my camera for future use. The police officer said if everyone had a camera like this there would be less crime.
M. Ridge: Mall Kiosk Thief
What event influenced you to purchase a video security system?
We were having problems late at night in one of our mall kiosks so we decided to get the Spy(clock) camera.
Where are the Cameras installed in your home or business?
They are installed at one of our retail mall locations for our wireless phone business.
How have you benefited from having video security?
We have been able to recover money lost due to theft.
What is your video clip about?
Our video clip shows an ex-employee stealing $4,000 worth of merchandise. He was able to get out with some of our phones as well as laptops and paperwork from that location. As the video shows, he looked right at the clock and did not even realize there was a camera there. We were able to use this video in court to recoup money. Since then, we have incorporated surveillance cameras into our locations and have been very grateful for what they have done. THANKS WILIFE!!!
P. Willardson: Laundry-Mat Crimes
Hello. I am an apartment manager of several apartment complexes with coin operated laundry machines. I was getting the dreaded weekend calls because in one particular laundry room someone was damaging our washer and dryers. Often we would find the mechanism broken and the other tenants would complain that the machines were inoperable and tell me they were taking their business to another local laundromat.
We had one incident that cost us over $200 to repair the coin mechanism after the crook jammed tools into it to try and steal the coins. Our laundry rooms are locked and only tenants have the keys.
Only a day after replacing a lock on a service door, someone had already broken the lock again. Determined not to spend my weekends fixing washing machines, I installed the WiLife camera on a Friday. The very next day we caught our culprit and filed a police report.
Believe it or not, the suspect would do his own laundry for free and then damage the machine so others couldn't get their's done. What a Jerk! Since we had some stipulations in our lease, like "you can't steal from us"!, he was evicted in short order and he's now doing laundry at his mothers house.
In the video, the suspect is in the coin box in the first 10 seconds.
S. Zetz: Catching Criminal Activity on the Street
We installed our camera system to cover our front door and back door in the fall of 2008. It was easy to set up and simple to use and we fell in love with it right away. Other than the occasional stray dog or cat, our camera system did not reveal anything of note until February 24, 2009 at about 11:40 PM. We were awoken by a phone call. It was our neighbor who asked us to check our camera system because someone had just thrown a bottle through their front glass door shattering it. I checked the camera and observed a red car parked across the street from my neighbors house. It turned on its headlights and then made a U-turn in front of our house. The car then turned off its lights again and pulled in front of my neighbor’s home (just out of view).
I called the police and they came to my home to look at the video. At this time, the police had no suspect information and nothing to go on. What we did not know until later was that while the officers were inside looking at the video, the suspects drove by twice in video clips 2 and 3. Both times, they turned off their headlights. In video 3, you can see them stopped at the stop sign with their lights off wondering why the police are at my home and not the neighbors.
After determining that the red car had an unusual driver's side antenna, I printed pictures on my home printer and the officers left my home. In video 4, you can see the officers leaving and the suspects (who believe there are no witnesses that link their car to the crime) passing by one more time. Officers realized that the car is a match and you can see both officers chase after the red car. What the camera doesn’t show is that they led officers on a chase and were both eventually caught after crashing. One suspect admitted to the vandalism and they were both charged with multiple crimes. My neighbors and the police were thankful for the security camera. If it wasn’t for the camera, the officers never would have had probable cause to stop the car. I hear the neighbors are now getting their own camera system.
T. Jackman: Tanning Salon Thief
I am a business owner of a Tanning Salon in Michigan. Like many other small business owners, we trust our employees and never think they would do anything to jeopardize there relationship with us or steal money. Well, I had an employee, a young 16-year old girl who had never really had a job prior to her job with us. I considered her a friend. I took her under my wing and began teaching her trust, loyalty, and dedication. To make a long story short, I began to have money missing on a daily basis. I began to think it was my computer system, or that I had entered an incorrect sales code. But every night, the cash drawer was off by $10, $20, or $30 dollars. I would never think one of my employees would steal from me!
I recently took on a full time job as a Realtor and did not spend as much time at the business as I should. So I had the alarm company come in and monitor the alarm system and call me on a daily basis every time the alarm was armed or disarmed for an extra fee of $35.00 per month. That was great, until we started getting calls in the middle of the night and lived 10 miles from the business. We would then drive to the business and count the drawer and then discover it was short on each occurrence. It was at this time we realized the unbelievable was happening to us. We started camping out at the Preschool across the street and in the home next door to the business just waiting for someone to arrive, just waiting to see who could be stealing from us.
Was it an employee, a past employee that left on bad terms, a family member with a key? What would we even do? Jump out and scare them or simply call the police? With 2 small children at home, it was hard to continue this practice of cop and robber!
Then my husband came up with this idea! Let’s go to Best Buy and get a Web Cam. I thought that was crazy! Being a tanning salon manager and thinking of the camera in the lobby over the cash register was not something I wanted to do.
We went to get the Logitech Video Security System and hooked the whole thing up in short period of time and plugged it in, facing the cash register. We left that evening thinking we could catch someone, maybe. Well, how about 10 minutes after we hooked it up! I was amazed, we got down the road and the alarm company called to say someone has entered the building. I quickly turned on my lap top in the car. Shockingly, it was the young girl I could always trust; the one that worked for me since she was 16; the girl that watched my kids and home on a regular basis.
I was terrified. I called 911 and 6 police cars showed up; 3 cars stayed with me and 3 cars chased her to her boy friend’s home, where, after watching the recorded video, the officers arrested her and she spent the evening in JAIL at 23-years old.
After totaling the proof, we now have her on 1 felony account, and 5 year probation with restitution of over $6000.00 over the 5 years of probation. What a story with an ending I never would of believed!
W. Denson, Maid Steals Money from Safe
Logitech WiLife CAPTURED CRIMINAL ACTIVITY:
I am a Detective assigned to a District Attorney’s office in Southeast Texas. In February 2009, a resident reported the theft of money from their home. A substantial amount of cash had “disappeared” from safes inside the residence over a period of several weeks. The homeowners concluded that their housekeeper was the only person that had access to the safes but they were reluctant to confront the housekeeper without any proof. They believed that the housekeeper had found the safe combinations written on a piece of paper hidden in another part of the house.
The homeowners purchased a Logitech WiLife camera system and set it up inside their house. We coordinated a “sting” operation and placed “bait” money inside the safes. The money was photocopied and treated with a chemical powder that could be detected using ultraviolet light. Anyone handling the money would get the invisible powder on their hands and clothing.
The housekeeper arrived for work early in the morning. The homeowner had the Logitech camera “rolling”. Several undercover agents were set up down the street from the house to document anyone coming or going. I met the homeowner at another location several blocks away and we used a laptop computer connected to the Internet to monitor the camera.
The housekeeper didn’t waste much time. From our Internet connection, we watched her enter the room where the safes were located. She noticed the camera sitting on a table. The housekeeper picked up the camera and examined it closely. The worried look on her face made us think that she wouldn’t actually steal any money this time, but she put the camera down and proceeded to open one of the safes and take the bait money.
When the housekeeper left the house, we had a marked unit pull her car over. She denied stealing the money but of course, the video evidence was overwhelming. She finally confessed and admitted that the money was hidden inside her clothing. I won’t mention the “exact” location she hid the money, but it was in a very “private” place. We recovered all the cash.
The housekeeper was arrested for Felony Theft and booked into jail. The housekeeper had worked for the homeowners for 20 years. This incident underscores the fact that you can never fully trust anyone and it’s important to get solid proof before taking action. The Logictech WiLife video made all the difference!
NOTE: The video associated with this story is NOT AVAILABLE since there is a pending criminal action against the defendant. For the same reason, the names of the homeowners, the defendant, and the amount of money involved is being withheld.
Ben Sgro - Tracking Down the Bagel Bandit
So heres our story:
We live in Brooklyn NY, where we have a very small yard for our house. We have two small dogs and one has severe food allergies. A few months back, we awoke to find fresh bagels thrown into our backyard. We didn't think much of it, assuming a stray animal had dragged the trash from a local trashcan and lost it in the backyard.
But the same thing happened the next morning and even again a 3rd time.
At that point, we knew something suspicious was going on and I was determined to find out who was behind this. I even took it as far as camping underneath our car with pepper spray and a baseball bat, waiting for someone to come throw bagels into our backyard.
But it didn't happen that night. In all reality, its not practical for me to be sitting underneath the car at 12 at night. So, I started looking around on Amazon for security systems. I found the Logitech WiLife Video Security system. It had really good reviews and the system looked awesome, for the cost. Being able to record to the computer is a killer feature.
Also, the “no wires” installation (besides power) was another killer feature. So we ordered the system and two cameras. It came, and I was so impressed, I ordered another two! Currently, I have two indoors and two outdoors.
Well, time went by and we never did catch the bagel bandit. But I awoke one morning to find trash bags filled with beer and alcohol on my lawn. Ha!
We ran over to the laptop we leave running 24/7 with the Video Security command station. We looked through the footage from the night before. Low and behold, we found a neighbor from a few houses down walking over to our yard twice and throwing his trash on our lawn. I had his face in plain site on the camera and immediately recognized him.
I stormed outside, gathered up the trash, and went to his house. I knocked on his door. He answered it. Holding the trash bags out for him to see, I looked him dead in the eye and said, "I have you on camera throwing trash on our lawn.”
His expression was priceless. It easily paid for the camera's, right then and there!
I left the trash on his door step and haven't heard a peep from him since. Thank you logitech for making a kick a** product! |
